Read the Dashboard
Use Dashboard for a fast summary of the selected Workspace before opening detailed reports.
Confirm the context
Check the Workspace name first. Period wording follows Business Structure:
- Sole Proprietor uses This Year, Last Year, and YTD language.
- Corporation may use This Fiscal Year, Last Fiscal Year, and fiscal-period language.
This Year always covers January 1 through December 31. YTD means January 1 through today. xBoox uses the full-year label only when the selected range is the complete calendar year.
Use the clearly labelled Current Period selector in the upper-right of the summary card to change the totals. This period controls the summary cards; it does not limit the separate Income versus Expenses trend selector. For a custom date range, open the related report and use its Custom Range controls.
Summary cards
Dashboard may show:
- Income;
- Expenses;
- Net Income;
- GST/HST Owing when tax tracking is enabled;
- an alternative all-time Net Income summary when GST/HST tracking is disabled.
Income, Expenses, and Net Income cards open the supporting Profit and Loss using the Dashboard's selected period. The GST/HST card opens GST/HST Summary using the same date range. Reports opened from Dashboard use Custom Range to preserve the exact dates shown on the card. The All-Time Net Income card opens the full recorded income-and-expense date range. Its small trend also covers that full history, independently of Current Period.
A period with no activity shows zero, even if another period has transactions. Last Month, Last Quarter, Last Year, and Last Fiscal Year compare with the immediately preceding period of the same kind. If that period contains relevant activity but its total is zero, Dashboard shows Previous Period Was Zero instead of a percentage change. A missing-period message means there is no relevant recorded activity for that comparison.
Income, Expenses, and Net Income use the same destination-account classification and accounting amount basis as Profit and Loss, including posted Journal Entries. Transactions posted to balance-sheet accounts such as loans, tax payable, or property and equipment do not become income or expenses merely because they were entered through an Income or Expense workflow. GST/HST Owing uses collected GST/HST less eligible input tax credits for the selected period. Its tax calculation follows GST/HST reports: input tax credits use the saved recoverable percentage, and refunds reduce the original tax or credit amount. These rules also apply to Split lines and eligible asset-account activity. Out-of-scope amounts do not enter the tax total or its small trend.
Charts
Use Income versus Expenses trends to review direction over the selected range. Choose All time to include completed income and expense activity, including posted Journal Entries and activity before the current fiscal year. Trends use the same account classification as the summary cards; refunds and reversals can produce negative values. Select a chart point to open Profit and Loss Comparison for that point's date range. Top Expense Categories includes only Profit and Loss expense accounts and highlights where recorded expense activity is concentrated. Select an available Category to open its supporting Profit and Loss transaction detail for the same Dashboard period. Categories with a zero or negative net expense keep their signed amount, but do not display a positive spending bar. This also applies on a phone.
Small period trends include partial months at both ends of a fiscal period. Last 6 months uses a rolling range ending today; when the corresponding date six months earlier does not exist, xBoox uses that month's final day before calculating the inclusive start. A delayed failure from an earlier All Time request does not replace a newer range selection or refreshed summary.
Dashboard loads summary information. Open the related report or transaction list before making an accounting decision. After you post or undo a Bank Transaction, opening Dashboard refreshes its summary to include the saved change. You do not need to reload xBoox to see it.
On a phone
After sign-in and Workspace selection, Dashboard opens in the phone navigation for supported mobile widths. Use the period control to change the summary period. The phone view shows the same summary totals, comparison direction, Income versus Expenses line trend, and proportional bars for leading Expense Categories without loading the underlying transaction-detail rows.
Important boundaries
- Pending or ignored bank rows do not represent final report transactions.
- Needs-review transactions may be excluded from final totals.
- Dashboard is not an Accountant Export or tax filing document.
- If values appear empty after a session error, restore authentication before assuming data is missing.
