Create a Home Office Working Paper

Calculate and save Home Office support for a reporting period, then use the appropriate business-structure workflow.

Before you begin

Enable Home Office in Settings > Business Profile > Business Activities and record eligible expenses in the Home Office child Categories. The system-calculated Home Office parent account cannot accept ordinary posting.

Create the Working Paper

  1. Open Accounting > Home Office.
  2. Confirm the selected period.
  3. Review the eligible expense total.
  4. Enter total home area and office area, or use the supported manual business-use percentage option.
  5. Review the calculated business-use percentage and claim amount.
  6. Select Create Working Paper.

The current Workspace and period retain the latest active Working Paper. Audit Log records create and update activity.

Sole Proprietor

The Working Paper provides tax-support information. It does not create a Journal Entry.

Corporation

Create the Working Paper first. Then open the Home Office item in Year End Review to post the controlled Journal Entry for the period. Once posted, the Working Paper cannot be overwritten until that Year End Review action is reversed.

The controlled entry uses the configured system Home Office and Shareholder Loan accounts. Reverse it from Year End Review, not from the general Journal Entries list.

Withdraw and history

Use the Home Office history view to inspect saved Working Papers. Withdrawal or reversal behavior depends on whether a controlled Journal Entry has been posted. Follow the action exposed by Home Office or Year End Review so source state and accounting history remain synchronized.

Important rules

  • Disabling Home Office preserves historical Working Papers but blocks new ones.
  • Home Office creates a Working Paper before any Corporation Journal Entry.
  • A Working Paper is support for review; it does not file taxes.
